Barracks. At first, inmates slept on straw-filled pallets placed directly on the dirt floors. The barracks themselves were prefabricated horse barns. Over 500 inmates lived in an area designed for 52 horses. ![]()
Later, bunk beds were constructed getting inmates off the ground, but leaving very little floor space. ![]()
Inmates selected for gassing were given showers first. The Nazis discovered that Zyclon B gas was more effective on warm, moist bodies. ![]()
